High Desert Paint Ranch Jordon Oregon

In the vast high desert pastures of the Stoddart Ranch in and around the Sheep Head Mountain range, in the Burns Junction area of Oregon. The ranch is a cow/calf operation that compliments the horse program, and in return the horse program complements the ranching. The terrain on the ranch is very dry and rough. It mostly open flat with rolling sagebrush land, with broken lave beds and ranges in elevation from 3500 feet to over 6000 feet. The cattle are often worked in a rodear when branding time comes, or cattle need sorted. We travel sometimes miles before the gathering starts and the day is complete. This is very vast here with miles of open county.

As a breeder the disposition on a horse is 90 percent of what you better own. If your horse does not have the right disposition you are beat before you start. The work with a cranky or unruly disposition is so much harder and will never get the full accomplishment most people want to achieve. A willing disposition in a horse, not only is a pleasure, but a real economic benefit as well. If a breeder seeks superior mental attributes in the horse being bred in the same way color and conformation are pursued, the results should be offspring with consistently sharp minds and desirable attitudes. This speeds up the training for you and the horse. It produces a horse that quickly understands and takes on a job--- whether in the show ring or on the ranch.

As a breeder I believe in disposition of your horse---the brains of your horse. Color is worth a ton, but color is nothing if you don't have the right disposition underneath.
